Sporting events dominate Google Trends in 2017

Thanks to this age of high-technology and social media and analytics, it's now possible to find out what people searched for the most during the past year, and as it turns out, sports has managed to dominate people's search bars in the past 12 months.
According to a comprehensive list by Google Trends, various sporting events have managed to make their way to some of the most trending lists in the Philippines.
In terms of overall searches, the FIBA Asia Cup came in as the tenth-most searched item of the year, with the whole country wanting to know more about the country's national men's basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas.
Gilas Pilipinas also made it onto the most searched Male Personalities list, coming in as the seventh-most searched, ahead of singer/social media sensation Jake Zyrus and a K-Pop stars Nam Joo Hyuk and Kim Joo Hyuk.
It was in the most-searched events list that sports left their biggest mark, making up five of the top ten entries, namely the FIBA Asia Cup which came in second, followed by the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn fight and the NBA Playoffs at third and fourth-most searched. The big-money superfight between Floyd Mayweather came in as the sixth-most searched event, while the tennis world's biggest event, Wimbledon, rounded out the list as the tenth-most searched event of 2017.
Filipinos are some of the biggest sports fans in the world, and 2017 was indeed a big year for sporting events.
