PSC and Cebu seal PNG hosting
The 2018 Philippine National Games will be co-hosted by the Province of Cebu and the City of Cebu.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) official Ramon Fernandez and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña officially formalized Cebu's hosting of the 2018 Philippine National Games through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement at Cebu City Hall Thursday.
Fernandez, who oversees the Visayas region, shared his excitement in the upcoming staging of the games and thanked the PSC for this major opportunity to lead the staging of one of the most-awaited sporting events in the country.
“Everything is set. We consider the PNG as the country's Olympics, that is why we are excited that we get to do it here in Cebu,” said the Commissioner.
Mayor Osmeña echoed this and bared that it had been a long time since the province hosted the event in 1997, and the province is very much excited for the affair.
The PNG will be co-hosted by the Province of Cebu and the City of Cebu.
The competition, which is slated May 19 to 25, is set to feature 21 sporting events including athletics, boxing, chess, dancesport, swimming and other team sports.
It will also showcase 12 playing venues around the cities of Naga, Tabuelan, Danao, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
An initial coordination meeting was done between Cebu sports coordinators and committee representatives from the PSC last April 3.
