Two slots for the 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games are at stake in the 42nd National Milo Marathon.
Aside from the honor of conquering the country's biggest footrace, this year's King and Queen of the 42nd National Milo Marathon will get a chance to don the tri-colors in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The 11-leg event in partnership with the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association will honor the men's and women's race champion with a slot in the Philippine team that will compete in the biennial meet to be held in the country November next year.
"Basta kung sinong mananalo dyan yun ang kukunin namin for the SEAG. We’re after the winners on both categories regardless of the time,” said PATAFA president Philip Ella Juico on Thursday during the event's press conference at Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.
The kickoff leg will be held in Urdaneta, Pangasinan on July 15 while the culminating National Finals will be in Laoag, Ilocos Norte on December 9.
Organizers expect around 150,000 runners participating for the duration of the event with last year's men's champion Joerge Andrade and five-time winner Olympian Mary Joy Tabal looking to extend their reign.
After the opening leg, the race will make a stop in Manila (July 29), Tarlac (August 26), Batangas (September 16), Lucena (September 30), Iloilo (October 7), Cebu (October 14), General Santos (October 21), Butuan (November 11), Cagayan de Oro (November 18) and the finals in Laoag (December 9).
