In a unanimous decision by the Philippine Sports Commission Board of Commissioners Wednesday morning, expenses of all national athletes and teams participating in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia will be shouldered by the sports agency.
A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that bridge, basketball, and volleyball will now be included in the spending of the Commission.
It was previously determined in previous talks between the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee that the aforementioned sports were to pay for their own expenses.
The PSC will shoulder airfare, parade and competition uniforms, track suits, luggage, accommodation and other related expenses. The training and exposure expenses of participating national athletes were also footed by the PSC.
A total of 272 athletes plus coaches and officials comprise the country’s delegation to the quadrennial event, which will run from Aug. 18 - Sept. 2.
