JAKATA — Cherry May Regalado motivated herself from last year’s bitter experience in Kuala Lumpur to clinch a bronze medal in the women’s seri singles of pencak silat on Monday in the 18th Asian Games at the Padepokan Pencak Silat TM III Hall.
Regalado missed the podium at last year’s Malaysia 29th SEA Games in the same event, a loss that she admitted as a bitter pill to swallow.
But instead of sulking, she got herself back in harness to capture the country’s third bronze medal in the sport and the 11th overall in the Games.
Dines Dumaan and Jefferson Rhey Loon contributed pencak silat’s bronze medals to the Philippine coffers on Sunday.
Tiwala lang po sa sarili at sa Dios,” said Regalado, who used to join beauty contests in high school.
Regalado scored 444 points, one point shy of Singapore’s Nurzuhairah Mohammad Yazid (445), who clinched silver. Indonesia’s Puspa Arumsasi won the gold with 467 points.
Regalado won gold at the 2018 Asian Games Invitation Tournament Indonesia hosted ahead of the Asian Games.
