The Philippine Sports Commission, as part of its efforts to aid in the recovery of Marawi City, has committed to providing financial and technical aid for the refurbishment of Mindanao State University - Marawi City Track Oval in the Memorandum of Agreement signing at the PSC Administration Building, RMSC on Friday.
“The idea of partnering with MSU came after President Rodrigo Duterte’s formation of Task Force Bangon Marawi, which directs the PSC, and other government agencies to provide full support for the rehabilitation of the city,” said PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez.
“Helping in the reconstruction of MSU Track Oval is one of the many ways the Commission is committing itself to Marawi City,” added Ramirez.
MSU President Dr. Habib Macaayong thanked the PSC for the project and promised that the said track oval “will be an open venue for the citizens of Marawi City, Mindanaoan athletes in the grassroots level and any athlete who needs it.”
Aside from the rehabilitation, the PSC will establish MSU as the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Regional Training Center, that will strengthen the talent identification program in the grassroots sports development of Mindanao, with the help of Philippine Sports Institute.
On the other hand, the MSU will provide assistance and manpower support in the implementation of the grassroots sports development and talent identification programs of the PSC and PSI in the region and in Mindanao.
Last July 2017, the PSC conducted the third edition of the Children’s Games “Sports for Peace” program in Iligan City, for the benefit of evacuees from Marawi City affected by the siege.
