FIBA: Gilas pre-World Cup schedule breakdown
The Philippine national team will head to Spain to play a series of practice games and a mini tournament against Congo, Ivory Coast, and Spain.

In about two weeks, Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup will shift into turbo speed.

The Philippine national team will head to Spain to play a series of practice games and a mini tournament against Congo, Ivory Coast, and Spain.

Here’s the full breakdown of Gilas Pilipinas’ schedule pre-FIBA World Cup:

August 4 - national team flies to Madrid, Spain.

Gilas then goes to Guadalajara to play against Congo and Ivory Coast before going back to Madrid.

A few days later, the Philippines will once again meet Congo, this time in Malaga for a pocket tournament. The winner moves on to face the winner of Ivory Coast-Spain.

The Spanish national team will field its best team, including all available NBA players.

Gilas leaves Spain on August 12 and will be back in Manila by August 13.

August 23 and 25 - Gilas goodwill games against Australia’s Adelaide 36ers.

August 29 - Flight to China for the FIBA World Cup.

August 31 - First game in the World Cup against Italy.

When Gilas heads to Spain, Gilas will miss at least four players as the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals will be in full swing at the time of training camp in Europe.

When the national team returns to Manila, that’s when Gilas will be in full force just before they take on the 36ers.

“At most, there’ll be four players from the pool that will not be included in the trip to Spain,” SBP President Al Panlilio said.

“But once they come back from Spain, the full team should be ready to practice. Of course, we don’t know who the two teams will be in the Finals,” he added.
