FIBA: Kiefer still can’t play in Gilas’ Spain camp
Gilas and Kiefer will be doing their due diligence as Ravena is still under FIBA suspension.

Kiefer Ravena will joins Gilas Pilipinas’ training camp to Spain but the Phenom will not suit up in any of the national team’s games against the national teams of Congo, Ivory Coast, and possibly Spain.

Gilas and Kiefer will be doing their due diligence as Ravena is still under FIBA suspension.

While he’s been allowed to practice since June 24, Ravena’s 18-month ban will totally be lifted on August 24, exactly a week before Gilas Pilipinas debuts in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

So for now, no games for Kiefer except for intra-squad scrimmages.

“We’re still cooperating with the sanction. Hindi pa kasi tapos talaga eh. Technically I still can’t play, I can play on the 24th pa,” Ravena said.

“I won’t be able to play sa Spain but I’ll do my best to help the team. I guess I’ll be the no. 1 cheerleader out there, together with the Filipinos who will be watching,” he added.

Gilas will leave for Spain Sunday as the national team’s preparations for the World Cup intensifies.

The Philippines will play Congo and Ivory Coast in separate practice games in Guadalajara and then they’ll play Congo again in Malaga to start a mini tournament.

The winner of that will move on to face the winner of Ivory Coast vs. Spain.

Spain is expected to field its true rosters filled with NBA players.

“It’s gonna be a huge step for our preparations for the World Cup. Syempre nakikita niyo naman medyo kulang pa talaga sa chemistry, sa oras sa loob ng court,” Kiefer said.

“Pero itong Spain kaya very important to samin, wala kaming distractions dun and all we have to do is play basketball and gel as one unit. Hopefully the 10 days na nandoon kami we’ll be really focused para pagdating ng World Cup ready na talaga,” he added.
