Gilas Pilipinas was almost in full force in its practice, Saturday at Meralco Gym in Ortigas.
Even injured Marcio Lassiter was present as the Philippine national team held its last training session before flying to Spain for a week-long training camp.
Just two weeks ago, the sharpshooter from San Miguel sprained the MCL in his left knee.
Now, he is is nothing but glad to share that he is on track in his recovery. “The swelling has gone down and that’s a good sign,” he told reporters.
That is also what Lassiter reported to Gilas head coach Yeng Guiao. “I got to talk to him, updating him about what the doctor said. Each week, the better I keep progressing, the better position I am in to play,” the former said.
This, in response to coach Yeng’s statement that the national team remains hopeful that the injured sniper could still be seeing action in the world meet.
Still, Lassiter made it clear nothing is set in stone. As he put it, “Once it gets closer to FIBA (World Cup), we have to sit down and talk to see where I’m at.”
At present, all that is on the mind of the 32-year-old is to be back on track. “I got to sit and rest and let it heal. I’m just trying to do this right and come back even better than ever,” he said.
