Gilas Pilipinas’ 2019 FIBA World Cup team is already down one player as Marcio Lassiter suffered a knee injury in the PBA playoffs.
As the national team went to Spain for its training camp, veteran Gabe Norwood was sidelined with a groin injury.
Norwood missed all four games that Gilas played in Spain.
But back in Manila, Norwood says he’s better and is just taking a little more time to make sure he’s fully healed and ready to go for the World Championships in China.
“I actually feel a lot better. It's really just precautionary now,” Norwood said on his injury status.
“Probably in the next day or two I'll be back in the five-on-five and I should be good to go for the tune-up games [vs. Australia] and everything else moving forward,” he added.
While being sidelined in Spain, Norwood got to see the Gilas team in a different light.
A different perspective still definitely helped him and the national team for their World Cup prep.
“It was a different training camp for me. First time ever really being able to sit out. I think I've only missed three or four games even in the PBA my whole career. Just tried to learn as much as I could, be along with the coaching staff as much as I could in terms of just things we could work on,” Norwood said.
“It was actually good for me to see the game from a different angle. I think I was able to soak in as much as I could, look at everyone's strengths and weaknesses from a different vantage point. I think I had a good camp,” he added.
