This week is pretty much the most pivotal in Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The national team is stepping things up in training as they now have less than two weeks to go before they play their first game in the World Championships in China.
Practice for Gilas this week ends with a pair of friendlies against Australia’s Adelaide 36ers.
Those two games are crucial as they will pretty much help decide the final team for Gilas Pilipinas in the World Cup.
“They will be crucial [36ers games] especially for the last two slots,” head coach Yeng Guiao said.
Coach Yeng naturally already has some names in mind for his final World Cup team.
However, completing the actual team is the hard part.
His final cuts could make or break the team’s campaign in China and so he’s gonna need all the help possible. The 36ers present the perfect chance for Guiao to have a final look at the players he wants for the World Cup.
“For our final adjustments, kailangan na makita natin doon yung last-minute adjustments,” he said.
“Makikita din natin doon kung paano natin ide-desisyon yung 12-man line-up. That’s how important it is,” coach Yeng added.
