On Sunday, Aug. 25, Kiefer can finally play basketball again as Gilas Pilipinas plays the 36ers again for the national team’s final tuneup before the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
Friday’s game against Australia’s Adelaide 36ers is the last one Kiefer Ravena is forced to miss due to suspension.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, Ravena’s 18-month suspension from FIBA due to doping will be officially lifted.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, Kiefer can finally play basketball again as Gilas Pilipinas plays the 36ers again for the national team’s final tune-up before the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
“Masaya, sobrang saya syempre. It might not show but I’m really just focused and getting back and helping the team,” Ravena said of his return to active play.
“It’s been a long time, a long way coming. Sobrang ecstatic ko, finally tapos na di ba?” he added.
From the press conference last year where he revealed the shocking development to now that he can finally play the sport that he loves once again, Ravena has been through a lot.
And it certainly feels fitting that the first game he’s eligible to play is with the national team.
“That’s just life you know? Full circle. You just have to be patient,” Kiefer said.
“You have to believe in yourself talaga and trust the people around you. Excited ako maka-balik,” he added.
On the day his ban is officically lifted, Kiefer has national team practice.
However, Ravena does plan on doing things for himself. A simple way to celebrate if you will.
“I’ll go to mass and thank the Lord for all the blessings and for all the lessons I’ve learned all throughout,” Kiefer said.
