Gilas Pilipinas will take on Italy, Serbia, and Angola in group play in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The suspense didn’t last long.
Gilas Pilipinas’ official lineup for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China is finally set, as announced by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Sunday night.
The Philippines will field a team that feature Andray Blatche, Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo, Gabe Norwood, and Paul Lee, all of who will make a second trip to the World Championships.
Gilas will also play Raymond Almazan, Mark Barroca, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Kiefer Ravena, and PBA rookies CJ Perez and Robert Bolick.
Yeng Guiao will lead the team to China as head coach.
The final cuts from the original 19-man pool that went to training for Gilas Pilipinas were Beau Belga, Marcio Lassiter, Poy Erram, and Matthew Wright. In the case of the last three, they were all nursing injuries.
Gilas’ final 12 is the same team that took on Australia’s Adelaide 36ers Sunday in their final tuneup game. The national team lost, 75-85.
The Philippines will open the 2019 FIBA World Cup on Aug. 31 against Italy. Gilas then takes on Serbia and Angola on Sept. 2 and Sept. 4 respectively.
