Italy has taken the lead in Group D of the 2019 FIBA World Cup, at least for the moment.
The Italians, fresh from a 46-point beatdown of Gilas Pilipinas, stopped Africa’s Angola as preliminary play resumed in Foshan, China.
Italy scored a big 92-61 win over Angola Foshan International Sports & Cultural Arena. At 2-0, Team Azzurri leads Group D for the moment.
Marco Belinelli led the winning team with 17 points.
The win by the Italians put even more pressure for Gilas Pilipinas. Already heavy underdogs against Serbia, the national team will have to pull off a miracle to stay alive in the World Cup.
A loss by Gilas to world no. 4 Serbia means elimination, allowing the Serbians and the Italians to move on to the next round.
The Gilas-Serbia clash will be later in the day with a tip off at 7:30 p.m.
