Gilas Pilipinas has been swept out of Group D but it’s not quite done yet in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The national team resumes action in Beijing for the 17-32 classification phase in a brand new Group N where they will play Tunisia and Iran.
Up first on Friday at 8 p.m. is Tunisia, who finished Group C with a 1-2 record following a win vs. Iran and losses to Spain and Puerto Rico.
Tunisia was the top team from the African qualifiers and is the reigning African champion.
Gilas Pilipinas is in the middle of a horror World Cup after suffering a combined 105-point beatings at the hands of Italy and Serbia.
Already eliminated from contention, the Philippines then blew a golden chance in regulation before absorbing a tough overtime loss to Angola two days ago.
While it’s been a tough World Championships, Gilas is still somehow in play for an automatic Olympics slot in Tokyo next year as no Asian team has advanced to the second round of the World Cup.
However, Gilas Pilipinas is not in an ideal situation and they need a sweep in classification play just to have an actual chance.
The Philippines-Tunisia showdown will be played at the Wukesong Arena in the Chinese capital city.
