Gilas Pilipinas will miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, that’s for sure.
FIBA has announced the countries competing in the four qualifying tournaments to complete the Olympic teams next year.
The Philippines missed the cut.
The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will include the 16 best-placed non-qualified teams from the FIBA Basketball World Cup and two highest-ranked countries per region in the FIBA World Ranking.
Those teams are: Angola and Senegal (Africa), Mexico and Uruguay (Americas), China and Korea (Asia-Oceania), and Croatia and Slovenia (Europe).
Despite finishing last in the FIBA World Cup, Gilas Pilipinas kept its ranking as the 31st best team in the world. However, South Korea jumped two spots and is now in 30th place.
