ANTIPOLO - Tab Baldwin has guided Ateneo de Manila University to back-to-back championships and has, at present, steered the Blue Eagles to five wins in as many games in their title defense.
That is exactly why the American-Kiwi mentor has emerged as a popular pick to call the shots for Gilas Pilipinas.
And as per several reports, coach Tab is being eyed to be the program director for the national basketball team.
He himself, though, neither confirmed nor denied those reports. "I think you can tell from the tone of boss MVP's (Manny V. Pangilinan) answers that it's premature to talk about it. Nothing's been formalized," he told reporters after the Blue Eagles downed National University, Sunday at Ynares Center here.
He then continued, "I can say we've had discussions. There's just a talk now about wanting to get processes right, but it's too premature to talk about anything else."
What is certain, in the eyes of the talented tactician, is that MVP will continue to support Gilas. As he put it, "Suffice it to say that everybody cares a lot within MVP's organization about what happens with Gilas. He continues to believe in the program and continued to believe in the future of it."
