Playing without a naturalized player in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, looks like the role of game-changer for Gilas Pilipinas will be bestowed upon June Mar Fajardo.
You know, the PBA’s reigning and defending five-time Most Valuable Player.
A fit-again June Mar joined Gilas’ SEA Games practice for the first time Thursday and his presence has been felt immediately.
“June Mar was here today, it was great to see June Mar. He just makes the team look different,” head coach Tim Cone said of Fajardo.
“He makes everything look different out there. I didn't have to instruct him one thing,” he added.
Coach Tim has June Mar on his team for the first time ever and the PBA’s winningest coach can’t help but marvel at Fajardo, arguably the greatest PBA player of all time.
More than his imposing figure, it’s June Mar’s sense for the game that allows him to be great according to Cone.
“All he did was watch what everyone was doing and he picked it up just like that,” Coach Tim said on Fajardo.
“His basketball IQ is off the charts. It's amazing. He's fun to be around,” he added.
