FIBA: Gilas women overmatched vs. South Korea in pre-OQT play

Gilas Pilipinas’ campaign in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying tournament just took a major hit.
The national women’s team was overmatched against South Korea and ended up taking a 114-75 beating Saturday at the Trusts Arena in New Zealand.
Ranked 18th in the world, the Koreans had eight players in double figures on their way to an easy win and a 2-0 record in Group A.
Leeseul Kang led the attack with 16 points while Jihyun Shin added 15 points and five assists.
Gilas Pilipinas got 19 points from Afril Bernardino and another 17 from hitter Janine Pontejos but the Philippines dropped to 0-2 following a 111-54 loss to New Zealand.
Only four teams, or top-2 per group, will make it to the OQT proper. Gilas women will wrap up group play vs. China tomorrow.
