With barely two weeks to go before the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Gilas Pilipinas is taking its first break from practice.
The national team is skipping its usual weekly traIning Monday in order to favor rest.
Ginebra players, making up the core of the national team, played in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup Sunday as did Northport, which has Christian Standhardinger.
TNT, a team also with multiple national team players, is coming over from Davao del Sur following an out of town game.
“I’m not sure what we can get done in one practice,” head coach Tim Cone said.
“After this practice, we’ll be starting consecutive practices on the 28th. So we might get more value out of that,” he added.
After two practice games against Alab Pilipinas in back-to-back weeks, Gilas was supposed to have on more tune-up against a visiting team from Taipei.
But injuries to the visiting camp derailed the whole trip.
“Their two main players got injured,” Cone said of the Taiwanese team.
“They were supposed to come here and do a series of games, but their two main players got injured, and they decided to back out, not just from us but from the other teams as well,” he added.
