Gilas Pilipinas’ campaign in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games has already taken a hit and the tournament hasn’t even started yet.
RR Pogoy is out of the lineup due to injury, meaning that Gilas will be one less shooter as it tries to win another basketball gold medal for the Philippines.
MRI showed Pogoy has a “disc bulge at L5-S1 causing nerve root irritation” as confirmed by TNT and Gilas team manager Gabbu Cui to ABS-CBN Sports.
Doctors advised Pogoy to completey rest for one week and may begin rehab accordingly after.
Pogoy hurt his back late in TNT’s quarterfinals win over Magnolia in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
“Mga 8 eh [scale of 1-10 in terms of pain],” Pogoy said after the TNT game.
“Biglang sumakit, una nung nag-dive ako tapos yung supalpalin ko sana si [Ian] Sangalang or kukuha ako ng rebound, biglang sumakit na siya,” he added.
No replacement currently for Pogoy in the SEA Games lineup.
