SEA Games: Pontejos heats up late as Gilas women survive pesky Malaysia

MANILA — Gilas Pilipinas’ second game in women’s 3x3 basketball of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was not easy.
Still, the fighting Filipinas got another win, surviving pesky Malaysia, 15-13, Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Center here.
Malaysia got a chance to force extra time but a final attempt from deep missed as time expired.
Unlike their first game against Myanmar, Gilas women found it hard to pull away from Malaysia.
It wasn’t until Janine Pontejos caught fire late that the Philippines got the cushion it needed for the victory.
Pontejos scored four of the Philippines’ last six points, finishing with a team-high five.
Afril Bernardino and Jack Animam added four points each while Clare Castro was good for two markers.
