MANILA — CJ Perez saved his best for last in men’s 3x3 basketball of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Monday during the gold medal game against Indonesia, Perez was in the zone and scored 10, single-handedly outscoring the opposition in a 21-9 victory.
Mo Tautuaa may have capped the gold medal win with a final trey but Perez’s highlight slam dunk was the gem of a dominant Gilas run that saw them win eight straight games.
“Syempre pag naka-lusot ka and hina-hype ka ng crowd, syempre yung adrenaline and energy mo sobrang taas,” Perez said on his signature slam.
“Siguro na-timing lang na ganun,” he added.
The last time Perez played for Gilas, he and the national team went 0-5 in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Now, CJ and the national team went 8-0 in the 2019 SEA Games. Perez wouldn’t call it redemption, he’s just grateful he got to wear the country’s colors again.
“Hindi ko naman tatawagin na bawi to,” he said.
“Pero alam mo yun, we’re grateful na na-represent namin ang country sa World Cup and now na nandito tayo sa SEA Games and nakuha ang gold, magandang karangalan to para sa Pilipinas,” Perez added.
