MANILA — It’s Gilas Pilipinas’ turn on the spotlight.
5x5 men’s basketball in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games tips off Wednesday at the MOA Arena and the Philippines will get first crack as Gilas takes on Singapore in an 8:15 p.m. main event.
Winners of the last 12 gold medals, Gilas looks to make it a lucky 13 and the national team certainly brought a team that’s capable.
Suiting up for Gilas in the 2019 SEA Games are LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguiar, and Stanley Pringle, June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Ross, Troy Rosario, Vic Manuel, Christian Standhardinger, Matthew Wright, and Kiefer Ravena.
RR Pogoy was in the original lineup but a back injury forced him out. Greg Slaughter will take his place to complete the Gilas 12.
The Philippines will be coached by Tim Cone, the PBA’s winningest coach.
In the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Gilas actually had trouble dealing with Singapore in the semifinals, needing multiple second-half runs to pull off a tough 68-60 win.
