Now it's official: Gilas Pilipinas interim head coach to start the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers is Mark Dickel.

Dickel, the former two-time Olympian and current TNT active consultant out of New Zealand, will take over the national team.

He will start with preparing Gilas for a pair of games against Indonesia and Thailand in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.

"In his short stint in the Philippines, Coach Mark has performed creditably well', said Manny V. Pangilinan, Chairman Emeritus of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in a statement.

"We want to hit the ground running for the upcoming 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. We all know what he did to help TNT in such a short span and we’re confident he can also move things quickly as we prepare for the first window this February," MVP added.

Dickel has been with TNT since the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup. In four conferences, he's led the KaTropa to the Finals once.

For the February window, Dickel will have 24 players at his disposal in Troy Rosario, RR Pogoy, and Ray Parks Jr. from TNT, Kiefer Ravena and Poy Erram from NLEX, Christian Standhardinger from NorthPort, Japeth Aguilar from Ginebra, CJ Perez from Columbian, Mac Belo from Blackwater, and Matthew Wright from Phoenix.

Isaac Go, Matt and Mike Nieto, Rey Suerte, and Allyn Bulanadi along with Justine Baltazar, Dave Ildefonso, Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras, Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano, Jaydee Tungcab, and Dwight Ramos will come from the cadet pool.

After the February window, Gilas will resume the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers on November. The SBP plans to have a full-time head coach by that time.
