Preparations for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup are officially underway for Gilas Pilipinas.
Nineteen of the 24 pool members showed up to practice Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo Gym inside the Ateneo campus in Katipunan.
PBA players present were Kiefer Ravena, Troy Rosario, RR Pogoy, and CJ Perez.
Gilas draftees Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, Allyn Bulanadi, Matt and Mike Nieto were also in attendance while amateur players Thirdy Ravena, Dave Ildefonso, Jaydee Tungcab, Dwight Ramos, and Juan and Javi Gomez Gomez de Liaño completed the active list.
Christian Standhardinger, Marc Pingris, Poy Erram, and Kobe Paras were also present but were in street clothes.
Absent from the list the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas revealed a few weeks ago are Japeth Aguilar, Ray Parks, Mac Belo, Matthew Wright, and Justine Baltazar.
Gilas' practice start exactly two weeks before the opening window of the Asia Cup qualifiers.
The Philippines will begin group play on Feb. 20 against Thailand, a rematch of the 2019 SEA Games Finals just last December.
Gilas will then travel to Indonesia to take on another SEA Games rival on Feb. 23.
Of the 24-man pool, the Philippines will select 12 players in its final lineup. TNT active consultant Mark Dickel will serve as head coach for Gilas Pilipinas but only on an interim basis.
