Three-team scrimmages were the highlight of Gilas Pilipinas practice Friday at the Meralco Gym in Ortigas.
The national team is off to day 2 of its preparations of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers and interim head coach Mark Dickel had his squad form three 5-man crews to simulate actual gameplay.
Seventeen players showed up to practice Friday, two less than Thursday's attendance.
However, 15 were active, the same as the day before.
Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Mike and Matt Nieto, Juan and Javi Gomez de Liaño, Dwight Ramos, Allyn Bulanadi, Rey Suerte, Dave Ildefonso, Poy Erram, RR Pogoy, CJ Perez, Isaac Go, and Jaydee Tungcab all took part in the scrimmages.
"Our intent was good, to try and play at a higher rhythm and really focus on pressuring the ball, sticking to our defensive rules," Dickel said.
"They're trying. It's just gonna take some time. We don't have too much time, but huge improvement from one day to the next," he added.
Troy Rosario and Marc Pingris were present in practice but were inactive. Christian Standhardinger and Kobe Paras were absent Friday but were present Thursday.
Japeth Aguilar, Ray Parks, Mac Belo, Matthew Wright, and Justine Baltazar are yet to show up in any of the two practices so far.
Standhardinger and Japeth however, both have begged off from the first window of the qualifiers.
"I'm just really happy to have the people here that came. Everyone gave great effort," Dickel said.
"It's a really positive group. All the players are motvated and really trying their best so it's a pleasure to coach, man. It was fun today," he added.
