Everyone's out for their Valentine's Day and pay day Friday plans but the Philippine national team is hard at work in preparation for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
Gilas Pilipinas home game against Thailand on Feb. 20 has been cancelled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, nevertheless, the grind continues as the national team has to go to Indonesia for a road game on Feb. 23.
For practice Friday, team captain Kiefer Ravena, Javee Mocon, Isaac Go, Dave Ildefonso, Dwight Ramos, Rey Suerte, Mike Nieto, Justin Chua, Troy Rosario, CJ Perez, Poy Erram, Jaydee Tungcab, Matt Nieto, Juan Gomez de Liano, Javi Gomez de Liano, Thirdy Ravena, Abu Tratter, and RR Pogoy were active.
Kobe Paras and Marc Pingris were also present in practice but sat out due to nagging injuries.
"Happy Valentine's day everybody. [Practice] was good, really good. An improvement from two days ago and an improvement from four days ago," Gilas interim head coach Mark Dickel said.
"It's going in the right direction," he added.
Even with a cancelled first game, Gilas still has the showdown against Indonesia coming up and the national team is going about everything as business as usual.
With no game on Thursday, it just means Gilas has a little more time to prepare for Indonesia now.
"We get a couple more days to prepare and go to Indonesia," Dickel said.
"We'll figure a way to work it out," he added.
