At 26 years old and an incoming third-year PBA guard, Kiefer Ravena is one of the most experienced players in the current Gilas Pilipinas national team.
He will lead the Philippines as team captain Sunday as Gilas takes on Indonesia on the road to start the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
Gilas' first game of the decade is a chance to usher in a new era for Philippine basketball.
"Some of us will be playing our first international game for FIBA talaga and hopefull we'll make the most out of this opportunity," Kiefer said.
"We're looking great right now. Slowly but surely, we're looking like a team," he added.
Even with a younger lineup, Gilas is still the favorite heading into the showdown against Indonesia.
However, Kiefer and the rest of his new team are more focused and making sure they play up to their potential and making sure the foundation for the future is set properly.
"We're a new team, everybody wants to prove something," he said.
"We're gonna play as hard as we can and we'll not let up on anything. That's what we're trying to build as a culture, not leaving any stone unturned," Ravena added.
