Quezon City native Bianca Pagdanganan made Gonzaga University history last week after becoming the first GU golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Pagdanganan earned the right to advance to the national championships after finishing tied for eighth place in the three-round NCAA Regional in Bryan, Texas, held from May 5-7 at the Traditions Golf Club.
Early on, Pagdanganan was putting on an impressive showing, as she fired a 5-under-par 67 during the first round of play, leading the pack and tied for third lowest round in the Gonzaga Women's Golf program history.
In the second day, it was more brilliance from Pagdanganan, shooting 3-under 69 for a 136 (-8) two-day total, the lowest 36-hole score in Gonzaga Women's Golf history and finished second after two rounds of play.
After round three, Pagdanganan finished with a 2-under-par 214, tied for eighth place, and recording her sixth top-ten finish of the season. What's more, Pagdanganan also tied the fifth-lowest tournament score in Gonzaga women's golf history.
“I am super proud of Bianca, she’s worked really hard and has been really coachable this year. She’s definitely deserves to go to Nationals. It’s a good day for her and a good day for Gonzaga women’s golf.” Gonzaga Women's Golf coach Brad Rickels said, in an interview with Gozags.com.
The NCAA Championships take place from May 21-25 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
A freshman in Gonzaga, Pagdanganan already started making waves in the Women's Golf program after winning top honors in just her second collegiate tournament last October.
While Pagdanganan is certainly doing Gonzaga University proud, she's also doing her home country proud. We could be seeing another Pinoy golf star in the making!
