ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Clariss Guce won the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic on Sunday for her first Symetra Tour title.
Guce, from the Philippines, made a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-3 closing hole for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke victory over Ally McDonald and Sophia Popov.
"As soon as I hit it, I just thought, 'Wow! That looks really, really good, but don't celebrate too early because you might get burned,'" Guce said.
Guce finished at 11-under 277 at Brook-Lea Country Club and earned $30,000 to jump from 84th to 12th on the money list with $34,859. The final top 10 will earn LPGA Tourcards.
"It is an amazing feeling, especially because I have been struggling quite a bit during the season," Guce said. "Being able to make a cut a couple weeks ago and then to win here, I can't even describe how fast this is happening. It just shows that anyone out here can win, the fields are just so good."
Guce eagled the par-5 10th, but made a triple bogey on the par-3 12th. The 26-year-old former Cal State Northridge player birdied the par-4 14th and 15th and finished with the birdie on 18.
McDonald shot a 64, and Popov had a 68. They also finished with birdies.
"It has been a while since I've had a round like that," said McDonald, third on the money list. "I've been waiting for this round and it was great to see putts go in."
