Former hooper Chris Hofmann gets to live out Araneta Coliseum dreams in URCC title defense

Hofmann gets to live out Araneta dreams in title defense
"Iím proud of what I have achieved, but Iím still hungry and Iím going to prove to everyone, especially here in the Philippines, that Iím number one, and Iím gonna defend the belt for us." - URCC middleweight champion Chris Hofmann

Before finding his way into mixed martial arts, Chris Hofmann was a member of the Far Eastern University men's basketball Team B.

Like most Filipinos to ever pick up a basketball, he too, dreamed of one day making it into the pros and performing in front of massive crowds in historic venues like the Araneta Coliseum.

Years later, Hofmann will get a chance to live out his dream and perform under the bright Araneta lights, in front of what's bound to be a massive crowd, but it won't be on the basketball court.

Instead, it's going to be inside a cage.

Saturday, Hofmann, the URCC's reigning and defending middleweight king puts his title on the line against Canadian challenger Robert Sothmann, and he gets to do it with a partisan crowd behind him.

"Definitely I’m excited, and I’m very proud of it." Hofmann told ABS-CBN Sports. "I’m proud of what I have achieved, but I’m still hungry and I’m going to prove to everyone, especially here in the Philippines, that I’m number one, and I’m gonna defend the belt for us."

The Fil-Swiss two division champion added that he plans on keeping the URCC strap around his waist and in the Philippines.

"This belt stays in this country, and no one is coming into our country and getting the belt from me. That’s not going to happen."

Aside from getting to live out a childhood dream, Hofmann hopes that his Araneta Coliseum debut will also get Filipinos to tune in to mixed martial arts in as much as they do basketball.

"I hope that I can get the crowd fired up for the fight and in the future they can focus on MMA as well, not just basketball."

Chris Hofmann puts his middleweight title on the line against Canada's Roberth Sothmann at URCC XXX this Saturday, August 12th at the Araneta Coliseum. Catch the exciting MMA action LIVE starting at 8:00 PM on S+A channel 23, S+A HD channel 166, and LIVE STREAMING on
