"He wants to say that he cannot speak English or Filipino, so he cannot reply to his Facebook messages from his Filipino fans,"
Ever since making his Philippine debut back in 2015, South Korea's Do Gyeom Lee has quickly become a fan-favorite among Filipino fans.
Lee's exciting fighting style has led him to the URCC featherweight championship, and at URCC XXX, 'The Undead Nightmare' succesfully defended his title for a second time after making quick work of challenger Jojo Orao.
Even against a Filipino, Lee had a lot of supporters at the packed Araneta Coliseum.
Interestingly enough, a lot of them were of the female variety.
Is it because the South Korean grappler could easily pass for a K-drama leading man?
Still, female or not, Lee has earned himself a lot of fans in the Philippines, and in return, he's shown nothing but love for the Philippines and its people.
"When he came here for the first time, he was nobody, but now he’s so happy that he has many fans and people are recognizing him now and supporting him, so he loves the Philippines." said Lee's translator. "He feels appreciation for those cheering him on, and he will try his best next time to show a better version of him."
And while Pinoy fans have shown him nothing but love as well, the reigning URCC featherweight king felt as though there was something he needed to apologize for.
"He wants to say that he cannot speak English or Filipino, so he cannot reply to his Facebook messages from his Filipino fans," Lee said through his translator. "So sorry for that, but I love the Philippines and Filipinos. He's not ignoring his fans."
We're pretty sure his fans will understand.
