Gab Banal was recognized as Most Valuable Player of the MPBL Datu Cup in the league's awarding ceremonies, Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Banal put up per game counts of 18.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists all while leading upstart Bacoor to a 13-12 record and a semifinals finish in MPBL South.

The Strikers' top gun was so sensational during the season that he edged out 10-year PBA veteran Mark Yee of Davao Occidental for the top individual award.

Joining Banal and Yee in the All-MPBL First Team are Manila's Chris Bitoon and Aris Dionisio as well as Muntinlupa's Allan Mangahas.

Then making up the All-MPBL Second Team are Harold Arboleda of Zamboanga, Michael Mabulac of Laguna, Leo Najorda of Davao Occidental, Jai Reyes of Navotas, and John Wilson of San Juan.

Other awardees were Dionisio with the Defensive Player of the Year award and Bulacan Kuya Jay-R Taganas with the Sportsmanship Award.
