The MPBL's mission-vision has not changed one bit in its third season.
The MPBL just keeps getting bigger and better.
The Philippines' grandest regional league is all set to commence its third season, Wednesday at MOA Arena.
There, 31 teams will be trotted out for the opener of the Lakan Cup.
Despite the record number of participants, however, the MPBL's primary purpose has not changed - to give local players the chance to be on a bigger stage and under brighter lights.
"Kaya nga tayo may limit sa Fil-Am, dalawa lang ang pwede tapos isa-isa lang maglalaro. Tapos pati ex-pro, lima lang ang pwede bawat team," league owner and founder Manny Pacquiao said in the preseason press conference last Sunday. "Kasi binibigyan natin ng importansya yung mga local players nating makapaglaro."
Indeed, that has been the MPBL's mission and vision since its inception. "The vision of the league is to give a chance to homegrown players," commissioner Kenneth Duremdes said then.
And according to Pacquiao himself, nothing will change that - not even new rules that will now allow each and every team to have two Filipino-foreigners on their 20-man roster.
That is exactly why, the league's newest and biggest season only promises to be the most must-see yet. As the owner and founder put it, "Marami kayong makikitang very competitive teams na maglalaro ngayon. Yung iba-ibang team, nagpalakas sa kanila kaya maganda talaga ang labanan ngayon."
As always, all of the action will be on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and TFC.
