Iloilo defeated Bataan, Navotas defeated Bacolod
Iloilo put forth a shocker for the second straight game in the MPBL Lakan Cup as its balanced offensive put away a Bataan side that was without Alvin Pasaol for an 84-78 decision, Monday inside Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
Fiery guard Aaron Jeruta scored 19 points on top of six assists and three rebounds while versatile forward RR De Leon scored 16 markers to go along with seven boards to make sure the rookie team Royals remained unbeaten after two games.
Richard Escoto, who hit the game-winner in their season opener, also posted a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double as Iloilo rode a 13-4 run in the middle of the final frame to turn a one-point deficit into an upset win.
It didn't help the Risers that they were without the services of super scorer Pasaol who is on his way home from an international 3x3 tournament.
Bataan still drew strong showings from Sean Manganti who had 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists and Alfred Batino who had 13 markers, nine boards, and two dimes.
Without an answer for the Royals' fourth quarter flurry, they fell for the second straight time following a win to commence their campaign.
Also pulling off a surprising win is Valenzuela which got the better of home team QC, 70-65.
Paolo Hubalde made his presence felt everywhere with 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists and was backstopped by Mac Andaya who wound up with 10 markers and six boards as the Classic moved forward onto a 2-1 standing.
For the Capitals who fell to 1-2, Mark Carongoy topped the scoring column with 13 points.
In the day's other game, Navotas finally tallied win no. 1 at the expense of newcomer Bacolod, 78-69.
Allan Evangelista and Francis Munsayac showed the way for now 1-1 Navotas as the former finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while the latter ended with 13 markers of his own.
On the other hand, Bacolod dropped to 1-2 despite the best efforts of Mac Tallo who had 18 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
