Bulacan successfully defended its home court thanks to Gwyne Capacio for a convincing 65-55 victory versus Basilan, Tuesday at the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium.
Capacio turned in his best game yet with 21 points while Dan Sara turned in another all-around effort of 17 markers, five rebounds, and four assists as the Kuyas put the first mark on the Steel's loss column in the MPBL Lakan Cup.
The home team found itself in a close contest until Capacio and Sara took charge in a final frame which saw them outscore their opponents, 23-14.
That final frame flurry was just what Bulacan needed to improve to 3-1.
Then dropping to 2-1 is Basilan which only counted Junjie Hallare as its bright spot with 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Meanwhile, two teams scored win no. 1 at the expense of separate foes.
Almond Vosotros shot Caloocan over Zamboanga, 83-74, all the way to a breakthrough win.
Vosotros was red-hot all game long and had 31 points, 14 coming from the free throw line, on top of four rebounds and three assists while Carlo Escalambre and Paul Sanga chimed in 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the now 1-3 Supremos.
Before that, Sandy Cenal came out of nowhere to power Mindoro right through Paranaque, 63-61.
Cenal, a local of the now 1-1 Tamaraws, fired 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and was backstopped by Mac Baracael who contributed a 12-marker, 10-board double-double.
With their respective losses, Zambo fell to 1-2 while the Patriots fell to 1-2.
