"Us players, we came up short. I think effort and just sipag eh," - Imus guard Gerald AndersonAfter suffering three straight losses once again, Imus-Khaleb Shawarma/GLC head coach Mac Cuan and backcourt gunner Gerald Anderson have both stressed on giving more effort and having more focus in Imus' upcoming games.
Team Imus faltered against Paranaque, Bataan, and Quezon City in a span of two weeks, as their overall record in the ongoing 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup Season worsened to 2-6 in the Southern Division.
Heading to their Tuesday clash against Nueva Ecija in Batangas, Cuan said the squad should work double-time on approaching games with the proper mental focus.
"I think number one is the focus and mental preparation. The last three losses were all more on mental, not physical anymore," said Cuan, who also put emphasis on following their game plan.
"You can't win giving the other team what they want to do. I just have to keep correcting and reminding them, and that's it. Nasa kanila na yun kung paano ang approach nila sa game."
Anderson, one of the more consistent players for Imus, who is averaging 7.7 points a game and 27 percent from three-point range, also echoed Cuan's sentiments.
"Us players, we came up short. I think effort and just sipag eh," said Anderson.
The actor also clarified that he does not want any immediate changes with the team, adding that the group should take it day by day to progress and become a better unit.
"I wouldn't change this team. Naniniwala pa rin ako. It's still a rebuilding team. But like I always say, practice makes perfect," said Anderson.
Cuan is expecting the Imus-Khaleb Shawarma/GLC side not to settle for another moral victory in their next affair, but rather secure an actual W and hope to jumpstart a winning run.
"At one point, we have to do something, hindi pwedeng puro sayang," the former ABL mentor said.
