In the only close match of the day the Mindoro Tamaraws fended off a determined Marikina Shoemasters side, 80-75.
Rodel Vaygan was named player of the game with 29 big points and 8 rebounds.
The Southern Tagalog club led by as much as 14 in the final quarter, 74-60, with six and a half minutes left.
However, Marikina showed heart to pull to within six off an Yves Sazon triple with three minutes left. Vaygan's dagger three moments later though restored the margin to nine. With a minute to go, the Shoemasters whittled the lead down to five with Von Tambeling's two-for-two from the stripe, but a Francis Camacho basket moments later supplied Mindoro with the clinching three-possession lead.
