John Wilson provided the points while Jhonard Clarito delivered the game-winning stop as San Juan Knights - Go For Gold topped the Bulacan Kuyas 90-88, Monday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season.
The pro-Knights gallery at the Filoil - Flying V Centre in San Juan saw their league-leading team improve to 14-1 while the visitors end their 3-game winning streak and fall to 9-6.
Wilson came up large in the payoff period with 13 of his 24 points, but with seconds left San Juan was still nursing a two-point lead. Kuya John Ray Alabanza was gifted the ball alone under the basket and it seemed he would have an easy layup to send the game into overtime, but Clarito literally and figuratively rose to the occasion, stuffing the attempt as time expired to preserve the W.
Bulacan were lively in the first half, taking a 46-38 lead thanks to Gwyne Capacio's 14 points, but Go For Gold stormed out of the gates with a 10-0 run to begin the second half, capped by a pair of buckets from Mike Ayonayon. At the end of the third San Juan led 62-61.
Once again, the fourth quarter belonged to Wilson. With 5 minutes left and his team down 73-72, the former JRU Bomber lit up the arena with 12 points in the next two-and a half minutes to give the Knights an 87-78 lead. The proud Bulacan team struck back with buckets from Jhan McHale Nermal, Dennis Santos and Rev Diputado to get back into the game, 89-88 down with 13 ticks remaining. A Wilson split from the line set up Clarito's audacious erasure to conclude the game.
Clarito had a massive night with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Bulacan loses for the first time under coach Kerwin McCoy despite Capacio's 18 points.

Makati 92 - 87 Biñan
In the early evening clash, Makati Super Crunch took down the Binan City Laguna Krah Heroes 92-87, with Jeckster Apinan leading the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Cholo Villanueva's team keeps up the pressure on the North Division leaders with an 11-3 card while Binan skids to 6-9.
It was a close battle all the way but when Josh Torralba hit a driving layup with 2:35 left Binan looked finished, down 83-76, but James Mangahas laid the ball in and his brother Allan did the same to slash the lead to 3, 83-80.
The final minutes of the contest were a free-throw-fest for Super Crunch, and Juneric Baloria, Torralba, and Vincent Importante held their nerve from the stripe to claim the win.
Binan were lead in scoring by Macky Acosta, who chipped in 19 points. Torralba also had a solid game for Makati with 18 points.

Batangas 105 - 80 Quezon City
In the opening game an impervious Batangas City Tanduay Athletics overwhelmed Quezon City Capitals - WEMSAP 105-80.
Rum City shot 53% from the field against just 35% from WEMSAP. New acquisition Lester Alvarez was superb again for the Batanguenos with 23 points, closely followed by Jaymo Eguilos with 20.
Batangas won every quarter but really stepped on the throttle in the fourth with 33 points. Aaron Black keyed a 10-2 in the fourth that got QC within striking distance, 83-75 with just under 5 minutes to go. That cued a torrent of points from Eguilos, Arvin Tolentino, and Nikki Perez to finally put the result beyond doubt.
Black's 28 point night was pretty much the only offensive bright spot for QC as the Caps slump to 6-9. Batangas go to 9-4.
