The second Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League All-Star game was way better than the first one, that's for sure.
The South All-Stars made it two in a row against their North counterparts, taking a pulsating 126-122 overtime win Thursday at the MOA Arena to highlight this year's MPBL festivities.
Jeff Viernes led the South's sizzling attack in overtime as a 10-0 run to start appeared to put the game out of reach.
But the North All-Stars would counter, with a booming Jeric Teng triple capping a 10-0 blast of their own.
In the end however, Viernes' steady hands at the line handed South the win, a nice follow-up from another South victory in the All-Star Games last year.
"I'm happy that the fans got a good game. In games like these, you want it to be thrilling. I enjoyed it, had fun and the entire bench also," said South head coach Don Dulay.
Viernes finished with 28 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the South. He won his second straight All-Star Game MVP award in the process.
Michael Juico top-scored the North with 23 points, nine boards, and four dimes.
