Toronto Raptors press release

The National Basketball Association announced Monday (Tuesday, PHL time) that DeMar DeRozan has been selected as Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Mar. 5-11 (Mar. 6-12, PHL time). This marks the 10th time DeRozan has earned the honour during his nine seasons in Toronto and the fifth time this season. He was also named East Player of the Week for games played Nov. 13-18 (Nov. 14-19, PHL time), Dec. 18-24 (Dec. 19-25, PHL time), Jan. 1-7 (Jan. 2-8, PHL time) and Feb. 26-Mar. 5 (Mar. 1-6, PHL time).

DeRozan averaged a team-high 24.8 points along with 4.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds as the Raptors won an NBA-best four games last week. He also shot .453 (34-for-75) from the field and .833 (25-for-30) at the free throw line.

Highlighting DeRozan’s week was a 42-point performance during Toronto’s 121-119 overtime victory Mar. 7 (Mar. 8, PHL time) at Detroit. He made a coast-to-coast dunk at the end of regulation and assisted on Fred VanVleet’s game-winning basket in overtime. DeRozan then scored 23 points, including the go-ahead basket Mar. 9 (Mar. 10, PHL time) vs. Houston, snapping the Rockets’ 17-game winning streak.

DeRozan, a native of Compton, California, is currently 13th in the NBA averaging 23.7 points through 66 games. The four-time NBA All-Star was selected ninth overall by Toronto in the 2009 NBA Draft and is the franchise’s all-time leader in career points (13,022), field goals made (4,620), free throws (3,470) made and games played (661).

Portland Trail Blazers press release

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has been named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from March 5 to March 11 (Mar. 6-12, PHL time), it was announced today by the league.

Lillard was the leading scorer in the NBA for the week, averaging 34.7 points (46.9% FG, 56.3% 3-PT, 83.9% FT) to go with 3.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He also led the league in three-pointers made (18) and was second in free throws made (26).

The Trail Blazers (40-26) went 3-0 on the week with victories over the Lakers, Knicks and Warriors, extending the longest active win streak in the league to nine games.

Lillard scored 19 of his 39 points in the fourth quarter at the L.A. Lakers on March 5 (Mar. 6, PHL time), including four consecutive three-pointers to lead Portland back from an 11-point deficit with 5:26 remaining in the game. He followed that performance with 37 points in the first three quarters against New York on March 6 (Mar. 7, PHL time), passing Cliff Robinson for fourth place on the franchise scoring list in the process.

For the season, Lillard is one of four NBA players (Curry, Harden, James) to average at least 26 points, four rebounds and six assists per game. Lillard has surpassed 1,500 points for the sixth straight season, making him one of 13 NBA players to do so in his first six seasons.

This is the second NBA Western Conference Player of the Week honor of the season for Lillard, who won the award for games played the week of Jan. 15 to Jan. 21 (Jan. 16-22, Hl time). It is the fifth time Lillard has received the award in his career, having won twice in 2014-15 and once in 2016-17.
