WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes is the latest to back Becky Hammon in her quest to become the first female head coach in NBA history.

Regardless if you're male or female, if you know basketball, you just know basketball.

And regardless if you're male or female, if you're good enough to coach, you should.

Or at least get the opportunity to fight for a position just like everyone else.

WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes is the latest to back Becky Hammon in her quest to become the first female head coach in NBA history.

The San Antonio Spurs assistant was linked to the Milwaukee coaching vacancy before the Bucks ultimately went with former Atlanta head coach Mike Budenholzer.

"I think what Becky has done in her short career has been remarkable," Swoopes told ABS-CBN Sports on Friday.

Swoopes is in the country to take part in the Jr. NBA Philippines program. The former Houston Comet will have a hand in choosing this year's All-Star team.

"I had the opportunity to play against her so I know the type of competitor she is. I know how smart she is and I know what she brings to the game," Swoopes continued.

"The way I look at it is it's basketball, it's not about female coach vs. a male coach. If you're very capable of teaching the game and coaching the game, and gaining the respect of the players you're coaching, I don't see why she shouldn't get the opportunity," she added.

Hammon has generated positive from NBA personalities for her quest to become a head coach, the most notable was Spurs forward Pau Gasol, who wrote a piece on The Player's Tribune to express his support.

Add Swoopes to that growing list.

With the Bucks choosing to go with Budenholzer, time will tell if Hammon can break that barrier once again to become the fist female head coach in NBA history.
