OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Golden State guard Klay Thompson went to the locker room, limping gingerly after J.R. Smith slid hard into the Warrior's left leg at the 6:17 mark of the first quarter.
Klay Thompson is VERY LUCKY his left ankle/leg didn’t snap. Wow pic.twitter.com/r2KJxo9zzH— Drew Shiller (@DrewShiller) June 1, 2018
Thompson lay grimacing in pain, slapping his hands on the court immediately after the play. He appeared to injure the same left knee he hurt in the Western Conference finals.
Smith was making a play on the ball when he seemed to unintentionally undercut Thompson, who did return to the Warriors’ bench after being treated in the locker room.
Klay Thompson (left lateral leg contusion) is being re-taped. Hopeful to return to tonight's game.— Warriors PR (@WarriorsPR) June 1, 2018
The team announced that he suffered "left lateral leg contusion" but he was available to return. Thompson in fact came back and started the second period.
