Forward Rudy Gay will decline his player option with the San Antonio Spurs for next season to become a free agent, ESPN.com's Chris Haynes reported.
Gay ruptured his left Achilles tendon on January 18, 2017, when he was with the Sacramento Kings, but still managed to sign with the Spurs last offseason.
In 57 games with the Spurs, all but six coming off the bench, Gay averaged a career-low 21.6 minutes per game, but still put up 11.5 points (47.1 FG%, 31.4 3FG%), 5.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
In five postseason games against the eventual champions Golden State Warriors, including four starts, Gay put up 12.2 points (40.0 FG%, 22.2 3FG%), 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 steals.
