The Portland Trail Blazers won the 2018 Las Vegas Sumer League title via rout, 91-73 against last year's champs, the LA Lakers, Wednesday (PHL time) at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Blazers opened on a strong 31-19 first period, and never looked back.
KJ McDaniels top-scored for Portland with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also pulled down seven rebounds and registered an assist and a block, good for Championship Game MVP honors.
Wade Baldwin IV scored 14, while Jonathan Jenkins scattered 11, each hitting a pair of three-pointers. Second-round pick from this year's draft, Gary Trent Jr. scored 12 on 15 shots. Jake Layman and Archie Goodwin logged 10 points apiece as well.
Prior to the game, Josh Hart, a second-year guard of the Lakers, was named Summer League MVP. Though he led LA in scoring with 12, he needed as many shots to get there, missing all six of his three-point tries. Veteran Jeff Ayres chipped in 11.
Both teams entered the Finals of the tournament unbeaten with 6-0 records.
During the 2017 Las Vegas Summer League tourney, the Lakers topped the Blazers 110-98, with Kyle Kuzma picking up Finals MVP.
