SHANGHAI – The NBA China Games 2018 presented by Vivo will feature two preseason games between the Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers.
The Mavericks and 76ers will both play in China for the first time when they meet on Friday, Oct. 5 in Shanghai at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, followed by a rematch on Monday, Oct. 8 in Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Universiade Center. The games will mark the NBA’s 25th and 26th games in China since 2004.
Below are facts and figures pertaining to the NBA China Games 2018:
300,000,000 – Basketball is the No. 1 team sport in China with an estimated 300 million people who play the game, according to the Chinese Basketball Association.
156,000,000 – The NBA is the most-followed sports league on social media in China with more than 156 million followers.
18,000 – The Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai and Shenzhen Universiade Center have a capacity of 18,000 each.
200 – The NBA China Games 2018 will reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories.
140 – NBA Cares, together with NBA teams and players, have hosted 140 community outreach events in China since 2004. As part of NBA China Games 2018, the league will conduct NBA Cares community service projects in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
26 – Following the NBA China Games 2018, the NBA will have played 26 games in China since 2004.
21 – This will be Dirk Nowitzki’s 21st season with the Mavericks, the most seasons an NBA player has spent with one team. Nowitzki will also tie the NBA record for most seasons played overall (21).
17 – Following the NBA China Games 2018, more than half (17) of all NBA teams will have played in China.
17 – There will be 17 world-class partners activating around NBA China Games 2018, including Vivo, presenting partner of these games for the first time. Together the NBA and these partners will conduct a series of fan engagement, youth development and community service events.
15 – The Mavericks and 76ers feature 15 international players from 12 countries on their preseason rosters:
Dallas (9): Kostas Antetokounmpo (Greece), J.J. Barea (Puerto Rico), Ryan Broekhoff (Australia), Luka Doncic (Slovenia), Maxi Kleber (Germany), Salah Mejri (Turkey), Dirk Nowitzki (Germany), Dwight Powell (Canada) and Ding Yanyuhang (China).
Philadelphia (6): Jonah Bolden (Australia), Joel Embiid (Cameroon), Furkan Korkmaz (Turkey), Norvel Pelle (Antigua and Barbuda), Dario Saric (Croatia) and Ben Simmons (Australia).
7 – The NBA China Games 2018 mark the seventh consecutive year the league is hosting NBA games in China.
6 – NBA China Games have been played in six locations – Beijing, Guangzhou, Macao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taipei.
3 – The NBA China Games 2018 will feature three former Basketball Without Borders (BWB) campers – Kostas Antetokounmpo (DAL; Greece; BWB Africa 2015), Joel Embiid (PHI; Cameroon; BWB Africa 2011), and Dario Saric (PHI; Croatia; BWB Europe 2010). BWB is the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program that has seen more than 55 former campers drafted into the NBA or signed as free agents since 2001.
