Kobe Bryant wants Lakers fans to relax, amidst the team's recent slump.
In a response to a fan's message to him, Bryant tweeted out, "Relax. Entire squad is damn near out. Were playing pretty well before that #gethealthy"
The Lakers are currently eighth in the Western Conference with a 21-19 record, having won just three of their last 10 games. However, as Bryant pointed out, there's a good reason for the team's woes: their lack of health.
LeBron James continues to be sidelined with a groin injury, while veteran point guard Rajon Rondo needed surgery for a ligament injury in his right ring finger. Young gun Kyle Kuzma meanwhile suffered a back contusion, and is on the shelf as well.
It must be pointed out though that without James and Rondo running the show, the other guys have been shooting miserably. Take today's 108-86 blowout loss at the hands of the Timberwolves: Brandon Ingram launhed a team-high 16 shots but made just five for 13 points. Josh Hart was 3-of-12 (two were triples though), while Lonzo Ball and JaVale McGee combined to go 0-of-7.
True, the Western Conference is still stacked, and any slippage could result in a deep dive down the standings. But let's not forget that the squad began 0-3, before going on an extended winning run that put them at 20-14, the capper being a Christmas day blowout win versus the defending champion Golden State Warriors.
All that remains, as the Black Mamba tweeted, is to #gethealthy.
