Fil-Am Jordan Clarkson of the Cleveland Cavaliers congratulated Gilas Pilipinas on Instagram, in the wake of them clinching a 2019 World Cup berth.
"congrats to my bros and the country such a honor for the country, qualifying for the world cup, so hyped!!! hope to see you guys in china!!!" Clarkson wrote, adding a Philippine flag emoji and #Puso.
Clarkson suited up for the Philippines back in August of last year in the Asian Games, helping Gilas reach fifth place, their best-ever finish, after getting a special exception to play from the NBA. He finished that tournament with averages of 26.0 points (46.0 field goal percentage, 39.0 three-point percentage), 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.0 steals.
It is still not known if Clarkson will be able to play for Gilas anew, in the upcoming World Cup, set to be held from August 31 to September 15 in China. FIBA still recognizes the Cavaliers guard as a naturalized citizen, and not a local.
Clarkson made the Instagram post following a 123-110 Cavaliers loss to the Portland Trail Blazers earlier today. He finished that game as Cleveland's second-best scorer, notching 19 markers off the bench.
In 59 games this 2018-19 NBA season, Clarkson is averaging 16.9 points on a 44.5 percent shooting clip, with 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
The draw for the World Cup will be held on March 16.
