Though he doesn't know yet which NBA team he'll be playing for in his rookie season, point guard Ja Morant is already looking forward to matching up against the player he calls "the GOAT" of his generation: LeBron James.
Speaking to the NBA, Morant named the LA Lakers star forward as the player he would most want to match up against, saying, "It would be crazy because it's somebody who I've been watching for a while now, that I will be on the same floor with."
The 19-year-old, 6'3" prospect is expected by many draft analysts to be picked second by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft, scheduled for Friday (PHL time), especially in the wake of reports that the franchise has agreed to a deal to send incumbent starting point guard Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz.
Morant revealed that he probably won't be nervous prior to getting selected, adding, "I think I'm ready [so] I feel like there's nothing to be nervous about."
In his sophomore season of US NCAA hoops, Morant averaged 24.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 10.0 assists, and 1.8 steals for Murray State, while shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from downtown. Since declaring for the draft, Morant reveals "it's been a lot of working out and traveling," with workouts in the morning and afternoon.
Morant's athleticism and explosiveness have drawn comparisons to Russell Westbrook, but the South Carolina-born baller revealed that his favorite player is actually Allen Iverson.
